This news follows Trump’s new cost-raising tariffs that have stocks plummeting amid cratering consumer sentiment and declining small business confidence. Melissa Morales, Founder and President of Somos Votantes, reacted with the following statement:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last night, J.P. Morgan raised the odds of a recession to 60%. This news follows Trump’s new cost-raising tariffs that have stocks plummeting amid cratering consumer sentiment and declining small business confidence. Melissa Morales, Founder and President of Somos Votantes, reacted with the following statement:
“Trump has been sabotaging our economy and raising prices on working families since day one of his presidency, and we can see that in the data showing layoffs spiking and consumer confidence plummeting. Trump’s economic policies are doing the exact opposite of what he promised on the campaign trail — instead of lowering prices on Day One, his actions are raising prices for working people and pushing us toward a recession while giving his billionaire friends more tax cuts. The President does not care if prices go up, which we know because he told us that’s the case. This week made his disregard for working people crystal clear – and we’ll be the ones paying the price for his economic failures.”
In March, Somos Votantes released a poll reflecting deep economic anxieties felt by Latinos across the country. Economic issues are at the forefront of Latino voters’ minds, with 67% rating the U.S. economy as poor and only 14% saying they live comfortably economically. The poll also showed that Latino voters view Trump’s economic record as a significant liability: 63% believe he prioritizes the wealthy over working families, and his handling of the economy has resulted in a net -13 disapproval rating.
