Somos Votantes and Somos PAC Announce Historic $57 Million Commitment to Reach Latino Voters
The Latino-led, Latino-focused Organizations, Which Run the Largest Independent Latino Civic and Voter Engagement Programs in the Country, Will Launch Efforts in Eight Battleground States
Washington, DC (April 3, 2024) – Today, Somos Votantes, and its sister organization, Somos PAC, announced its biggest election investment to date by committing $33 million to persuade and mobilize Latino voters in support of President Joe Biden, Senate and House Democratic candidates in key states, including Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Texas. Somos Votantes is committing an additional $24 million to reach Latinos by expanding non-partisan voter education programs.
The $57 million election investment is part of Somos Votantes and Somos PAC’s celebration of its fifth year of running the largest independent Latino civic and voter engagement programs in the country.
“Working people, including hardworking Latinos, are an ever growing political force that are keeping our economy going and will determine the outcome of this year's election,” said Melissa Morales, President and Founder of Somos Votantes and Somos PAC. “Our investment in and commitment to running our largest independent Latino civic and voter engagement programs yet underscores the impact our community will have in races up and down the ballot. Somos Votantes’ commitment will ensure more hardworking Latinos participate in our democracy. Somos PAC’s investment will ensure hardworking Latinos exercise their power and carve a path for Democrats to secure the White House for President Biden, the Senate and take back the House. Hardworking Latinos set our economy on a path toward recovery by turning out for Democrats in 2020, 2022 and will do so again in 2024. Democrats have continued to deliver by making life more affordable, and there is still more to do to ensure that working people have the tools and opportunities we need to build a good life.”
Somos Votantes and Somos PAC’s 2024 roadmap focuses on three central pillars; state-focused research and message testing, large scale field programs; and paid media outreach:
Research and Message Testing: As part of our efforts to craft messaging that resonates and identifies the most important issues to Latino voters, we will conduct on-the-ground state-based research and messaging across all eight states.
Expanding Large Scale Field Programs: To continue to meet Latino voters where they are, Somos Votantes and Somos PAC will expand its field programs which include traditional door-to-door canvassing, site based canvassing, business and community organizing, paid relational organizing, and an unprecedented collection of real time stories from the ground.
-- Somos PAC plans to knock on more than 3 million doors of Latino households across all target states in support of President Biden and other Democratic candidates.
-- Somos Votantes plans to knock on over 250,000 doors of Latino households through our non-partisan voter contact program.
Bilingual Paid Media Outreach: $17 million will be used to reach Latino voters through Somos Votantes and Somos PAC’s award-winning bilingual paid media campaigns that will reach out to Latino voters and constituents through a mix of TV, direct mail, digital and radio advertising.
This historic announcement comes after Somos Votantes announced its first paid media campaign of 2024, launching a $1.5 million bilingual paid-media campaign featuring small business owners in Texas’ 15th congressional district urging Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz to support legislation that would make life more affordable for hardworking Texans and protect the Inflation Reduction Act. Somos Votantes also launched door-to-door and site based canvassing programs in Nevada and Arizona in the fall of 2023 talking to and connecting hardworking Latinos to new programs President Biden signed into law that provides working people with the tools and opportunities they need to build a good life for themselves and their families.
Together, Somos Votantes and Somos PAC have a strong record of investing and increasing Latino voter participation rates in key battleground states like Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. In 2022, Somos PAC and Somos Votantes collectively invested nearly $16 million in key races which were vital to the election and reelection of Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, Sen. Mark Kelly, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar. Separately, Somos Votantes invested over $5 million in non-partisan, mobilization programs to educate voters on the mechanics of voting and maximize Latino election participation.
